2nd Year

Alhamdulillah, this academic year will be my second year with IISM (P) family.

The new academic calendar 2012/2013 will start soon and the 'tense (excitement) ' is getting stronger.

Everyone seems to be busy and sometimes 'stress' during planning week.

May Allah make easy our task, unite us under His mercy and unite us again in Jannah.

Bismillahi Allahuakbar!

Our kids, Our future

If you want your child to be a stellar student, don't limit learning to the walls of his classroom. Although the skills he's learning there are crucial to his intellectual and social growth, your child needs your help to open up the world of ideas. His renewed joy in discovery will transfer to his schoolwork, so you'll boost his academic achievement too!

1.Fill your child's world with reading. Take turns reading with your older child, or establish a family reading time when everyone reads her own book. Demonstrate how important reading is to you by filling your home with printed materials: novels, newspapers, even posters and placemats with words on them.

2.Encourage him to express his opinion, talk about his feelings, and make choices. He can pick out a side dish to go with dinner and select his own extracurricular activities. Ask for his input on family decisions, and show that you value it.

3.Show enthusiasm for your child's interests and encourage her to explore subjects that fascinate her.

4.Provide him with play opportunities that support different kinds of learning styles — from listening and visual learning to sorting and sequencing. Supplies that encourage open-ended play, such as blocks, will develop your child’s creative expression and problem-solving skills as he builds. He'll need lots of unstructured play time to explore them.

5.Point out the new things you learn with enthusiasm. Discuss the different ways you find new information, whether you're looking for gardening tips on the Internet or taking a night class in Islamic literature.

6.Ask about what he's learning in school, not about his grades or test scores. Have him teach you what he learned in school today — putting the lesson into his own words will help him retain what he learned.

7.Help your child organize her school papers and assignments so she feels in control of her work. If her task seems too daunting, she'll spend more time worrying than learning. Check in with her regularly to make sure she's not feeling overloaded.

8.Celebrate achievements, no matter how small. Completing a book report calls for a special treat; finishing a book allows your child an hour of video games. You'll offer positive reinforcement that will inspire him to keep learning and challenging himself.

9.Focus on strengths, encouraging developing talents. Even if she didn't ace her math test, she may have written a good poem in English class. In addition to a workbook for math practice, give her a writing journal.

10.Turn everyday events into learning opportunities. Encourage him to explore the world around him, asking questions and making connections.

Amanah

Alhamdulillah a’la kullihal.

After 2 days of Islamic Enhancement Program (IEP) conducted at my school, I found that it is somehow an eye opener.

Amanah.

Our body is the amanah.

Our family is the amanah.

Our career is the amanah.

And the list might go longer.

Let’s purify our intention, never lose hope and keep on improving.

Thank you Allah for making me realize how important the ‘amanah’ is, as it will be questioned later on.

InshaAllah, this school break will be a good time for me and for the other colleagues to 'sharpen the saw'.

May Allah unite us, make easy our task and bless us until the end.

Empowerment

is the word I’m currently in love with.

Alhamdulillah we (IISM Primary & Secondary teachers) had a very inspiring session during our INSET (In Service Educational Training) last Monday with Emeritus Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar A. Rahman.

MashaAllah, I already 'know' him while attending ESQ Parenting course two years ago, and this year I get to meet him in person.

His stories are inspiring and make me feel closer to Allah, Subhanallah.

Some inspirational quotes / notes summarize from the session:
  • ·         Power is the ability to take action, to make it happen and to put things into motion
  • ·         Desire and support system are the elements needed for positive empowerment
  • ·         Happiness is a choice, open your heart and give to the fullest
  • ·         Life is journey of imperfect actions
  • ·         Empowered workforce: many voices, but ONE heart and ONE will
  • ·         The power of ‘WHY’ ~ explain in order to change
  • ·         Attitude of gratitude ~ how we say thank you to Allah? The best person among you is the one who give the most benefit
  • ·         Teachers ~ build human resource, characters, create impact, create or spark transformation.
  • ·         To fall down is okay, but to stay fall is not okay
  • ·         Should you fall, fall forward ~ Should you fail, fail successfully

One simple (yet meaningful) poem shared by him at the end of the session:

Positive Mental Attitude

A little bird flies in the sky,
A man look up, the bird shits on his eye,
He said ‘Thank God, cow doesn’t fly’

Thank you Allah for your blessings and ni'mah.

May Allah bless Dr. Omar and his family.

New Chapter

as a wife.

Thank you Allah for giving me him.

I will be loving you, for the rest of my life, for the sake of Allah, inshaAllah.

May Allah bless our marriage with sakinah, mawaddah and rahmah.

O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones, over which are (appointed) angels stern (and) severe, who disobey not, (from executing) the Commands they receive from Allah, but do that which they are commanded.

Usrah

When a problem is solved by more than one person, that is Usrah.

When a happiness is shared together, that is Usrah.

When one person forgets, others remind, that is Usrah.

Instead of hanging out alone, hang out together, that is Usrah.

In short, Usrah is all about WE (not ME).

Angry..?

We can get angry easily.

BUT,

to be angry

at the right time,

at the right person or situation,

for the right reason,

and in the right way,

is not that easy.

Let's forgive, get well and move on!

Sharing Moment

Alhamdulillah, thank you Allah for today.

A meaningful day with my mum and Ummi Roshada.

Some beautiful words from them:

"When you have started something, no matter how hard it is, complete it, till the end."

"Patience, patience and patience are the secret ingredients in successful marriage."
(Sabar tu, biar macam lemak tepu, susah nak hilang)

"Apa-apa pun jangan pernah lupa doakan pasangan, keluarga. Mintalah semuanya daripada Allah."

"Ingat, kita ni tak sempurna, jadi belajarlah untuk bertolak ansur dan memaafkan."
(It is imperfection that makes people connect to each other ~ perfectly imperfect)

Thank you mama, thank you ummi.

May Allah bless us all.

Forgive us Ya Allah, Guide us Ya Allah

When nobody seems to understand you,

ALLAH is always there for you.

Guide us Ya Allah, so that we can be a true Khalifah teacher.

Guide us Ya Allah, so that we can be close to You.

Guide us Ya Allah, all the way to your Jannah.

I know that You could easily
Take away everything You've given me
And I try to remember
Not to take anything for granted
'Cause I know that one day
Suddenly this will all come to an end
So my last wish is for you to be pleased with me

Allah, Ya Allah
Guide me all the way to your Jannah
Ya Allah, Ya Allah
Don't let me go astray 'cause I need you
By my side, I wish to be close
Close to You throughout my life
Ya Allah, oh Allah!
Be with me all the way

I know that sometime I do
I do forget that my next breath could be the last
Forgive me 'cause I cant thank you enough
Forgive me when I doubt your love
Now I pray for that day
when all this stops and comes to an end
So my my last wish is for You to be pleased with me

Day by day passes
And I think that my time could be near
So I pray: O God let this world be in my hands
And not in my heart
'Cause soon I'll have to leave it

Guide me all the way
Don't let me go astray

Metaphors for Teaching

  • Teacher as Boss: Student-workers are supervised by teacher-managers, who cajole students to 'get back to work' or 'do your homework' or 'finish your seatwork'.
  • Teacher as Nurturer: The teacher cares for the students, protecting them and fostering their learning. The images of caretaking, affection, love and warmth are stimulated by this metaphor.
  • Teacher as Captain of the Ship: No mutinies allowed here. The teacher barks out orders and the students jump to comply.
  • Teacher as Experts: The purpose of the teacher is to be an information source. Teaching, in this context is telling others. The 'others' (students) are passive receiver of the knowledge.
  • Teacher as Doctor: The teacher diagnoses the learning needs of the students and prescribes appropriate interventions for them.
  • Teacher as Coach: Students are novices who must practice skills in order to develop expertise. The teacher models the desired skills, structures practice time and events, and encourages student achievement.
  • Teacher as Performer: The teacher must capture the interests of the students by acting in an entertaining way.
  • Teacher as Traffic Cop: Many avenues of learning are open to students, but the teacher as traffic cop helps prevent collisions, introduce order and ensure safety.
  • Teacher as Judge: The teacher sets the standards for learning and assesses students against this standard.
  • Teacher as Co-Learner: The teacher is no longer the expert, but a seeker of knowledge who works with the students. The 'right' answer to questions is not known but must be researched or created through reasoning and problem-solving activities.

Lir Ilir!

After quite a long break, Alhamdulillah this weekend I have a chance to recharge myself at ESQ Intermediate Training: Mission Statement and Character Building (MCB).

Restructuring the vision and mission.

Updating and refreshing the knowledge.

InshaAllah, it's gonna be a great start!

Lir ilir!

Lir-ilir, lir-ilir
tandure wis sumilir
Tak ijo royo-royo tak senggo temanten anyar
Cah angon-cah angon penekno blimbing kuwi
Lunyu-lunyu yo penekno kanggo mbasuh dodotiro
Dodotiro-dodotiro kumitir bedhah ing pinggir
Dondomono jlumatono kanggo sebo mengko sore
Mumpung padhang rembulane mumpung jembar kalangane
Yo surako… surak hiyo…

Sayup-sayup bangun (dari tidur),
Pohon sudah mulai bersemi,
Demikian menghijau bagaikan pengantin baru,
Anak penggembala, tolong panjatkan pohon blimbing itu,
walaupun licin(susah) tetap panjatlah untuk mencuci pakaian,
Pakaian-pakaian yang koyak(buruk) disisihkan,
Jahitlah, benahilah untuk menghadap nanti sore,
Mumpung terang rembulannya,
Mumpung banyak waktu luang,
Mari bersorak-sorak ayo…

A Beautiful Visit

Alhamdulillah, although it is a postponed trip, finally I have the chance to visit OZ.

Supposedly, I have left for OZ as an undergrad student six years back, but only this year Allah allows me to visit the place.

It is a beautiful experience.

It is a beautiful moment.

It is a beautiful visit.

Alhamdulillah a'la kullihal.

It's so hard to explain..

what I'm feeling.

But I guess it's OK,

if I keep believing...

It's 2012, 1433 Hijra and another year takes place bringing us closer to the day, where we will depart to meet our Creator.

And that fact always make me wonder, what is it I truly want (need) in this life? Am I ready to face the day? What will I bring with me when the day comes? And will I meet all my beloved family members, relatives and friends again there?

Sungguh tiada yang istemewa yang bisa ku bawa sebagai persembahan cintaku kepadaMu,

dengan itu Ya Allah, terimalah catatanku secara maya ini sebagai salah satu daripada persembahan cintaku kepadaMu.
